I ran across someone on one of the other gawker sub-blogs earlier without enough money for dinner, through no fault of his own. I offered to chip in, because that's not nice to hear about.
If a few of us chip in just a small amount each, I'm sure it would make a big difference to him. Up to you, of course, but he seems genuine enough - he wasn't asking for money or anything.
His paypal address is: inwoodm@gmail.com

That sounds terrible, I hope he and his wife manage to get by alright!

That was my reaction, too. If people can chip in just 50 cents each or something, it'll all help.

Y'know, I was just bitching about needing a second job because I can't afford to do much besides live currently(broke college student lyfe) but at least I have a place to live that I can pay for, plenty of food budget, and no real stresses other than school right now. Just sent a few bucks his way, honestly wish I could afford to give more.

I know what you mean. I was feeling a bit pissed-off about not getting some money I was expecting, but it doesn't begin to compare.

I'm using the mobile app, and this doesn't really come under 'Friends and Family' or 'Goods and Services'. Any ideas?

I don't know the mobile app, but I think it would probably be somewhere in the friends and family - i.e. personal - bit.
